Schwickert’s
Urges Residential Furnace & Water Heater Check-Up
One Call Can Improve Safety and Efficiency
MANKATO – Schwickert’s,
south-central Minnesota’s leading heating and
cooling contractor for nearly 100 years, recommends
a simple furnace and water heater check up now, before
the cold weather sets in.
“Recent changes in the
weather means winter can’t be too far off,”
says Joe Samuelson, Manager of Residential Services.
“Now is the ideal time to make sure your gas furnace
and water heater are ready for the heating season. Simple
preventive servicing now can save hundreds of dollars
and reduce the likelihood of mechanical failures once
the snow flies.”
Schwickert’s team of residential
heating experts recommends the following procedures
be completed before cold weather arrives:
- Inspection of thermostat and wiring
- Inspection of furnace filter, and
replacement, if needed
- Inspection of heat exchanger and
venting
- Cleaning of burners and inspection
and cleaning of pilot light
- Inspection of bearing and belts
- Lubrication of blower and motor
- Testing for carbon monoxide levels
“Furnaces, like all things mechanical, need maintenance,”
says Samuelson. “They may appear to chug along
unaffected, but it doesn't take long for dust and rust
to start reducing the appliance's efficiency and longevity.
The good news is that cleaning and lubricating a gas
furnace is something our technicians can complete quickly.
And with today's energy prices and equipment costs,
it pays to be proactive.”
