New Construction- Mechanical
New Ulm Medical Center owned by Allina Health is a non-profit located in New Ulm that serves Brown County and the surrounding region of south central Minnesota. In August 2013, Schwickert’s was hired with a contract amount of $773,870 to do the mechanical work on a new 15,000 square foot clinic addition. The clinic expansion included an eye clinic and a pharmacy. Schwickert’s did all of the HVAC and plumbing work in the new addition. The piping to support the clinics mechanical and plumbing was run underground from the central plant to the addition. A rooftop unit was installed to supply the heating and cooling of the new building.
In order to streamline future expansion, Schwickert’s had to keep in mind Allina’s plan for the addition of two more floors to the the clinic. The job was required to be completed in a short amount of time. From ground breaking, the entire addition was complete in five months.
Most recently, Schwickert’s was hired to install a new makeup air system to replace louvre system. The makeup air was installed to provide fresh air to the hospital. The unit was installed in the penthouse mechanical room on the fourth floor of the building which required specific installation measures. Additionally, a semi-instantaneous steam fueled water heater was installed as an upgrade to the existing water heating system to provide a redundant source of hot water for the entire hospital. Schwickert’s was also in charge of the design, fabrication and installation of a platform railing for the rooftop chiller. In addition to all of the installation projects, our mechanical team has been in charge of inspecting and maintaining all of the fire dampers in the life safety system at the medical center and performs maintenance projects as needed.
