New Construction and Renovation

Open Door Health Center first opened in Mankato in 1983. The clinic is a non-profit organization that provides affordable health care on a sliding-fee scale to uninsured or underinsured people. Their mission is “advancing access to quality, affordable, culturally appropriate health care through patient-centered medical, dental and behavioral health services for all people across southern Minnesota.”

The clinic has been constantly expanding services and offerings over the years and in turn has seen an increase in patients. With the plan for expansion 5,500 new patients will be able to access health care resources. Schwickert’s was hired by the general contractor, RW Carlstrom, as a subcontractor to do aspects of the roofing and all of the mechanical and plumbing work. Schwickert’s had a contract amount of $1,012,993 of the $10 million capital remodel and new construction project. Open Door’s expansion included adding 8,000 square feet of new clinic space and renovating over 12,000 square feet.

Schwickert’s installed Aaon rooftop equipment, direct expansion cooling, boilers, fin tube radiation systems providing baseboard perimeter heat, medical gas systems, vacuum, HVAC duct work and plumbing. Rhino Bond TPO Flat roofing was installed along with architectural metal flashings. Over the 2 year timeline of the project, Open Door’s facilities never closed to the public. This required significant coordination of production times between Schwickert’s and the RW Carlstrom.
