The UNI-Dome is a multi-purpose stadium on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. It opened in 1976 and seats up to 22,000 spectators for events. The UNI-Dome’s roof was most recently renovated by Schwickert’s in 2010 after damage due a high wind storm and hail. The original air inflated canvas roof was replaced in 1995 with a stainless steel roof after it partially collapsed during a snow storm.
Schwickert’s worked with engineers, the manufacturer and University officials to design and install a hybrid 60 mil Johns Manville PVC roof. The white roof is heat reflective, energy efficient and meets windload requirements. During the removal of the existing standing seam stainless roof and installation of the new roof, the facility remained open and the University experienced no interruption in the UNI-Dome’s schedule of events.
